About the Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins joined the NHL in 1967 as part of the league's expansion from six teams to 12. The team struggled early, but the arrival of Mario Lemieux in the 1980s turned the franchise into a contender.
The Penguins have won five Stanley Cups, in 1991, 1992, 2009, 2016 and 2017. Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are among the best players in team history.
Pittsburgh returned to the playoffs in 2026 but lost to the Philadelphia Flyers in six games in the first round.
The Penguins play at PPG Paints Arena in downtown Pittsburgh, which opened in 2010 as CONSOL Energy Center and took its current name in 2016.
