About the Buffalo Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres joined the NHL in 1970 alongside the Vancouver Canucks as part of the league's expansion. The team quickly built a passionate following in Western New York.

Buffalo has reached the Stanley Cup Final twice, in 1975 and 1999, and is still searching for its first championship. Gilbert Perreault, Rick Martin, Rene Robert, Dominik Hasek and Alexander Mogilny are among the best players in franchise history.

In 2025-26, the Sabres ended a 14-season playoff drought and won the Atlantic Division, the seventh division title in team history. They beat the Boston Bruins in the first round before losing a seven-game series to the Montreal Canadiens.

The Sabres play at KeyBank Center in downtown Buffalo, which opened in 1996 as Marine Midland Arena and has a hockey capacity of 19,070.
